Mon 29.03 — 11:00 Brave Belgians of the Belle Époque
During the Belle Époque period, a horn school with a global reputation was founded at the Royal Conservatory in Ghent. From his perspective as a Ghent-trained performer, Jeroen Billiet immersed himself in the world of his illustrious horn-playing predecessors, and returned with carloads of tall tales, unusual musical instruments and a fair dose of poetry.

Past, present and future merge in a richly documented historical-artistic doctoral dissertation, which is backed by an extensive range of elegantly romantic artistic output.

Jeroen Billiet's research was funded by the Research Fund for the Arts of KASK & Conservatorium, HOGENT.

Concert / livestream from MIRY Concert Hall

At 11am the artistic presentation of the research will be performed live at MIRY Concert Hall, in collaboration with the Mengal Ensemble, the horn studio of KASK & Conservatorium and pianist Jan Huylebroeck, with works for horn by Adolphe Samuel, Martin-Joseph Mengal, Robert Herberigs; Joseph Ryelandt, François-Joseph Fétis and Jane Vignery.
