Wed 28.04 — 20:15 Peter Vermeersch & Thomas Noël: 'In C'
Ghent take on minimal masterpiece

The American composer Terry Riley wrote his iconic work In C in 1964. This composition is one of the benchmarks of minimalism. It consists of 53 parts, sometimes only with a few notes. Riley gives performers a lot of freedom at In C. There is no fixed duration and over the years there has been endless variety.

The unsurpassed Peter Vermeersch (Flat Earth Society) and Thomas Noël (The City's Song) venture into a Ghent version in this brand new production. Fourteen musicians with as many instruments as different cultural influences reflect the wealth of music in the city. Count iconic Ghent players such as kanun player Osama Abdulrasol, violinist Shalan Alhamwy, Farnoosh Khodadadeh on daf and the kora player Moussa Dembele.

To complete the picture, illustrator Gerda Dendooven provides colorful projections and Josse De Pauw also adds text. Expect a magical concert, a kind of tantric experience that will enthrall you and let you escape for a while.
