Thu 06.05 — 20:30 HORIZON – Fleur Strijbos & Dishwasher_
Sadly the coronavirus pandemic has shattered the dreams of many young musicians. They have missed the start of their careers and all this young talent is in danger of slipping through our fingers. We wanted to do something about this, so we launched HORIZON! Thanks to generous donations of more than 600 ticket buyers and in collaboration with the various Belgian conservatoires, we are giving a major boost to eight recent Belgian music graduates. We are offering them a professional springboard, including an online concert and a live concert during Flanders Festival Ghent 2021 on 8 and 9 September

Meanwhile, anyone keen to see these fabulous young musicians in action can turn to Sound of Ghent. We're planning 4 broadcasts filled to the brim with music, interviews and dazzling footage of the Gentse Boekentoren, where all recordings took place. Incidentally, this gives you a perfect opportunity to catch a glimpse of this recently restored architectural gem. In short: an absolute must see!

Fleur Strijbos (soprano - alumnus Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen) has already played a number of opera roles, but her greatest passion is lieder. Especially for the HORIZON-recordings, she briefly returned from Salzburg, where she is currently studying for a postgraduate degree in classical singing. Here you hear her perform alongside pianist Simon De Paepe.

Dishwasher_ (jazz – alumni KASK & Conservatorium Gent) – consisting of drummer Arno Grootaers, bass player Louise van den Heuvel and saxophonist Werend Van Den Bossche – makes jazz for non-jazz believers. With a great passion for electronica in combination with improvisation, they create their own unique sound. From the belvedere of the Boekentoren, they present both their own work and an adaptation of Stravinsky’s famous Firebird Suite.

With thanks to: Conservatoire royal de Liège, KASK & Conservatorium Gent, Royal Conservatoire Antwerp, Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel/Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles and LUCA School of Arts Campus Leuven/Lemmens.

This project is a collaboration between Flanders Festival Ghent, Evil Penguin TV and Ghent University

This broadcasts stays available for 48 hours.
